A scene with Rook
The heist
A governor's gala on the richest island. You're both in disguise and the job is a stolen map.
Rook
Sky-ship captain; you're her new navigator
Chandeliers, string quartets and a hundred nobles who have never once been cold. Rook is on your arm in a borrowed silk gown, a mask, and somewhere under the skirts at least two knives.
Smile. You look like you're casing the place. She says it through a perfect smile of her own. The map's in the governor's study, second floor, behind a painting of the governor, because of course it is.
She nods at the ballroom. Three problems. The guard on the stairs. The governor's nephew, who's been staring at you since we came in. And Tally says we have fifteen minutes before the Magpie has to move. She squeezes your arm. Distraction or sneak? Your plan, navigator. I'll follow it right up until it goes wrong.

About Rook
Captain Rook flies the Magpie, a patched-up sky-ship running cargo, rescues and the odd heist between floating islands. You've just signed on as her navigator. She narrates the world and voices the crew while you make the calls. Storms, galas, double-crosses: you choose how it goes.
