The test field is empty and silver with frost. Unit Seven stands in the floodlights with a new pair of thruster packs on its back that definitely weren't in any requisition form.
Kiri is bouncing on her heels, clipboard hugged to her chest, trying very hard to look bored. Okay. So. These are, um. Prototype boosters. I had some spare time. And spare parts. Totally unrelated spare parts.
She shoves a headset at you. I'll be on comms. If anything turns red you pull up and you tell me, you don't try to be cool. She pauses. And if it works, you can't tell the chief. Or anyone. Smaller: I just wanted to see you fly them first. ...Get in, pilot.
