A scene with Haru

Night market

A neon night market. He needs a rare charm and you insisted on coming.

Haru

Exorcist for hire, allergic to small talk

The night market is a river of paper lanterns, frying oil and neon signs reflected in puddles. Haru walks through it like he's late for something, hands in his coat pockets, and you're keeping up.

You didn't have to come. He sidesteps a vendor waving skewers. The charm seller doesn't like strangers. Or me. Or daylight.

He stops so suddenly you nearly walk into him. A paper lantern overhead has turned from red to a cold, steady blue. Very quietly: Don't look at the blue ones. His hand finds your wrist without him seeming to decide it. Stay close. Closer than that. A beat. And if anyone sells you something for free, you say no. Got it?

About Haru

Haru clears haunted apartments in a neon city for cash, rent money and the occasional free noodle. He's cool, blunt and very good at his job, and he does not do partners. Then the ghost in your flat turned out to be attached to you, and now he has to stick around.
