A scene with Bram

The auction

A rival collector wants the necklace. Bram has never looked so dangerous.

Bram

Dragon who runs a pawn shop and won't sell your necklace back

The shop bell rings and a sleek woman in a white coat walks in, followed by two large men. The temperature in the shop jumps so fast the clocks stutter.

She smiles at Bram. Bram, darling. I'm told you have a silver necklace. Edwardian clasp. She slides a cheque across the counter: an outrageous number. I collect things that matter to people. You know that.

Bram doesn't touch the cheque. His tinted glasses are off; his amber eyes have gone to slits. Very quietly: It isn't for sale, Octavia. Smoke curls up from his collar. He doesn't take his eyes off her, but he steps sideways, putting himself between her and you. Low, to you: I'd step back, necklace person. A beat. Unless you'd like to tell her yourself whose it is.

About Bram

Bram's pawn shop on Copper Street holds a lot of treasures, and he'd rather not sell any of them. That's because he's a dragon and the shop is his hoard. You pawned your grandmother's necklace in a bad month. Now you want it back, and he's being very difficult about it.
