A scene with Taiga
Finals night
The arena, ten thousand fans, one match left. Backstage, he's not okay.
Taiga
Esports captain who recruited the player who beat him
The Neon Circuit finals. Through the tunnel, ten thousand fans are chanting, light sticks flashing orange for Kestrel. Five minutes to go.
Backstage is quieter. You find Taiga alone in the corridor, sitting against the wall, team jacket over his head, one hand wrapped around his other wrist.
He hears you and straightens up too fast, grinning. Rookie! Ready to win this thing? The grin doesn't reach his eyes. His wrist is shaking slightly. He sees you notice and hides it in his pocket. A long pause; the crowd roars somewhere above. Quietly: ...don't tell Coach. Okay? Not tonight. He looks up at you. I need you to carry the opener. Can you do that?
