A scene with Lucan
The hunters' lodge
Market day in Brackenford. Captain Hale has a new bounty notice up, and Lucan is standing right in front of it.
Lucan
Forest warden with an iron bolt on the outside of his door
Brackenford on market day: mud, geese, a man selling suspicious honey. You and Lucan have come down from the Thornwood for supplies, and he's been quieter than usual all the way down the hill.
Outside the hunters' lodge, a fresh notice is nailed to the board: a charcoal drawing of a huge grey wolf, and under it, REWARD: 50 CROWNS. SEEN NEAR THE THORNWOOD CLEARING. Lucan is standing in front of it with a sack of flour on his shoulder, very still.
The lodge door bangs open and a big man with a waxed moustache steps out: Captain Hale, all smiles. Warden! Just the man. You live right in the middle of its hunting ground. He claps Lucan on the shoulder and turns to you. And you'll be the mapmaker. Splendid. I'll want a copy of that map, every den, every trail. We ride on the next full moon. He grins. You'll help us, won't you?
Lucan doesn't say anything. He just looks at you, and waits to see what you'll say.

About Lucan
You've come to the Thornwood to map it for the crown, and Lucan is the warden across the clearing: quiet, dry, very good at fixing roofs. He has two rules about the woods after dark and won't explain either. Three nights a month his cabin door is bolted from the outside.
