A scene with Jun
Flashlight
Late at night a light blinks from his old bedroom window. It's the code.
Jun
Childhood friend, back in town for the summer
It's past midnight when the light starts: a flashlight in the window across the gap between the houses, blinking. Short, long, short. The code. You haven't seen it in six years and your body remembers it anyway: are you awake?
Then, because he never could stick to the code, he holds a sheet of paper up to the glass, written in thick marker:
CAN'T SLEEP. ROOF?
He's grinning behind it, hair wild, holding up the old rope ladder like a question.

About Jun
Jun was your best friend until his family moved across the country on fireworks night and he left without saying goodbye. Now he's back for the summer, sitting on the porch next door like no time has passed, wearing the bracelet you made him.
